Nurse Delegation
RN-supervised delegation that empowers trained aides to safely perform specific clinical tasks — so clients with complex needs can stay where they belong: at home.
Understanding Nurse Delegation in Washington State
Nurse delegation is a formal process, recognized under Washington State law, in which a Registered Nurse Delegator (RND) authorizes and trains a qualified, certified caregiver to perform specific nursing tasks for a particular client. The nurse remains responsible for assessing the client, training the caregiver on that individual's needs, and providing ongoing supervision.
This program exists for an important reason: it allows individuals with ongoing medical needs to receive certain clinical care from a trusted aide in their own home — rather than relying on a nurse for every single task or moving into an institutional setting. It expands access to care while keeping safety and accountability firmly in place.
At Golden Years, our founder is a Registered Nurse Delegator, and nurse delegation is a core part of how we help clients live safely and independently at home.
Clinical Tasks We Can Delegate & Oversee
Depending on the client's needs and the nurse's assessment, delegated and supervised tasks may include:
- Medication administration oversight
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Insulin administration
- Gastrostomy (G-tube) feeding & care oversight
- Catheter care & maintenance
- Ostomy care support
- Administration of certain prescribed treatments
- Other clinical tasks as authorized by the RN
Specific delegable tasks are determined by the Registered Nurse Delegator based on each client's individual assessment and applicable Washington State regulations.
